ADVICE TO GO

Combining accessibility with functional design, this fully adaptable space, in the heart of Dundee, acts as a relaxed hub for advice aimed towards incentivising those with an interest in studying at the Duncan of Jordan College of Art and Design. Following the inspiration of the Art School’s advertisement and marketing scheme the building features a predominantly grey colour palette with accents of red, complimented by natural woods to create a neutral and approachable environment.

The Façade of the structure, its form inspired by Le Corbusier’s Convent Sainte-Marie de La Tourette, boasts dominant linier plains each divided by quiet glass panels, allowing for the public to gain preliminary insight into the advice centre. In order to remove formal misconceptions, the shop incorporates an ‘Advice to go Bar’; an exciting way for members of the public to seek quick advice without fully entering the store, thus creating a personal yet relaxed exchange.

Making the most of the space, the ground floor gallery area holds adaptable seating, each folding out from the raised floor, in turn allowing for customers to sit, relax and look at the artwork/information projected onto the ceiling. Continuing upstairs, the space can be used in a range of manners. With furniture designed to be moved, revealed and removed, the space can be reinvented to accommodate a variety of functions.

As to encompass the element of accessibility towards the Art School, the store is accessible both upstairs and down with the addition of a wheel chair accessible lift and W/C, also making use of specifically designed furniture allows for easy access to tables and work spaces.

Combining these elements fabricates an atmosphere where customers can immediately feel relaxed and welcome, laying the foundations for an inspiring and insightful experience.
